Skin Care Tips for the Everyday Man
Even if you are a man who likes to keep your bathroom routine fairly low key, there are a few skin care tips to help keep your skin healthy and youthful and to keep you looking irresistible for your other half, of course. Turn to the tips below to make sure you are on the right track.
While you are sure to shower each and every day, it is a good idea to reconsider the kind of soap you are using on your skin. What may come as a surprise, is that the vast majority of soap found in the bath and beauty section of your local retailers is full of harsh chemicals, that will dry your skin. On top of that, you must remember that the skin on your face is a bit more sensitive and prone to breakouts and dryness more than the rest of your body. It is for this reason, we suggest turning to a chemical-free handmade French soap designed to use from head to toe.
Shave And Groom
Whether you prefer a clean shave, a bit of scruff, a goatee, or a full beard, daily or weekly maintenance is required. This means you must identify the type of grooming supplies that best meet your needs. This could include a hand-held razor, electric razor, or trimmer. When you do shave, try shaving just after your shower – this will allow your skin some time to soften. Then apply a rich shaving cream, and shave with the grain. If you have sensitive or dry skin, avoid aftershave that can be irritating or drying and instead use a shaving balm.
Even on days that you don’t shave, it is important to add a moisturiser to your face after cleansing in both the morning and evening. This is a proactive approach to anti-aging. Even if you don’t shower, you must wash your face at night. This will remove any oil, sweat, dirt and grime accumulated during the day. Make sure that your daytime facial moisturiser comes with an SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of no less than 15. While you can use the same moisturiser in the evenings, consider a richer or thicker facial moisturiser at night, one that is designed specifically for night-time and/or anti-aging. Keep in mind that you may want a lighter weight moisturiser during the summer, and a heavier moisturiser during the winter.
Head To Toe
While your face will need the most TLC during your daily skincare routine, you must not forget the rest of your body.
When it comes to your head to toe skin care routine, you may want to apply lotion after your shower. If you don’t have time to apply lotion after every shower, use a natural soap with built-in moisturising properties.
No lady wants to kiss a man with flaky lips, so you must find a lip balm made from natural ingredients, which will keep your lips from getting chapped. If you find your lips are chapped, gently brush them with a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove the excess skin, then apply your lip balm.
While you may not have the need to carry hand lotion with you, you should at least keep some in the house. While both men and women will require hand moisturiser during the cooler and drier winter months. If your job requires you to wash your hands multiple times throughout the day, then it is a good idea to moisturise multiple times throughout the day as well.
Don’t count an occasional pedicure out of the question, but even if pedicures aren’t your thing, you must keep your feet somewhat smooth. Invest in a thick cream moisturiser designed for feet and lather it on at bedtime a few days a week underneath a pair of socks. However, if your feet are too rough, it may be time to at least invest in a product designed to exfoliate your feet.
Other than the time it takes to groom your facial hair, the tips above will take less than 10 minutes out of your day. However, this 10-minute investment will help to keep your skin hydrated and youthful, so that you always look your best.
