Mature Skin Care – 8 Steps You Can Take Today
Your desire to look as young and healthy as you feel can make fine lines and wrinkles frustrating. As you begin to notice your skin showing visible signs of ageing, you may begin searching for ways to reverse, manage, and minimise damage. Here are 8 steps to help you maintain your gorgeousness.
1. Use A Mild Facial Moisturising Cleanser Twice Each Day
If you are not yet consistent with washing your face, now is the time to adopt a healthy new cleansing routine. At the end of each day, it is essential to wash your face with a mild moisturising cleanser to remove all makeup, oil, dirt and grime. Over the night while you sleep, your skin will produce additional oil, so you must cleanse your skin again in the morning before applying make-up or moisturiser. The key is finding a product that is designed to be gentle enough for the delicate skin of your face. What you may be surprised to learn, is that many brand-name and over-the-counter facial cleansers actually contain harsh chemicals that dry your skin – having consistently dry skin equals damaged and aged skin.
By the way, when you turn to our 100% natural French soaps, you can rest assured that you have a premium product, which is safe for your skin from head to toe. Aside from being gentle, we add moisturising Argan Oil or Shea Butter to our soaps to moisturise while gently and deeply cleansing your pores.
2. Add An Anti-Ageing Moisturiser To Your Daily Routine
Even if you use a moisturising facial cleanser, such as our handmade French soap, you must also apply an anti-ageing moisturiser to both your a.m. and p.m. skin care routines. The moisturiser must be designed especially for your face, as well as for ageing skin. Even when speaking of moisturiser, you must keep an eye out for harsh chemical ingredients. Your skin care products should never hurt or cause irritation, and should never dry out your skin.
Don’t forget the importance of internal hydration with beverages such as water, herbal teas, and coconut water. Even the most effective facial and body moisturisers cannot properly hydrate your skin if you are internally dehydrated.
3. Sunscreen Is A Must
You must select a sunscreen or make-up that contains a minimum Sun Protection Factor (SPF) 15. Even if it is not particularly hot or sunny outside, you are still exposed to ultraviolet rays every time you walk out the door. Ultraviolet rays can damage your skin and age your skin faster than you desire. If you will be outdoors for long periods of time, consider wearing a hat to protect your skin – and reapply sunscreen every 2 to 3 hours.
4. Don’t Skimp On Your Sleep
Sleep is when your body heals and repairs from the inside out, including your skin. This is one of the many reasons it is important to maintain an average of 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night. This is also why it is important to head to bed with clean and moisturised skin, which will allow your body to focus more of its energy repairing your cells.
5. Exfoliate Your Skin
As you age, your skin will continue to thicken, making it even more important to exfoliate away the dead skin. There is a common misconception that exfoliators need to be abrasive. However, gently scrubbing your face with a face cloth can effectively exfoliate your skin. Also turn to natural ingredients designed to dissolve and exfoliate dead skin. With our wide-range of soaps made from the best essential oils nature has to offer, your soap can double as your exfoliator. Find our range of exfoliating soaps here.
6. Get A Facial At Least Once Every 2 to 3 Months
Facials are not something that should be reserved as a luxurious treat but as part of managing your mature skin. You can go to a spa to receive your facial, or you can give yourself a facial at home. What you are searching for is a facial that will deep clean your pores, tighten and firm, and soften and smooth. If you can, steam at least once each week as a mini-facial for your face and body.
7. Exercise Your Face
We are all aware of the importance of strength training from the neck down, but what about from the neck up? Your face alone has 43 muscles, which you can gently exercise to tighten and firm. This will help to reduce the severity of your wrinkles and fine lines, as well as tighten and smooth your skin. The great thing about facial exercises is that you can do them anytime and anywhere without breaking a sweat. In just 5 minutes per day, you can keep your skin youthful for many years to come.
8. Increase Internal And External Antioxidants
Antioxidants are what our body uses to fight off the internal and external toxins it is exposed to. If you do not have enough internal and external antioxidants in your daily routine, then the visible signs of ageing will be more apparent. This is why you must increase the amount of naturally occurring antioxidants in your diet by adding more fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and whole grains.
To provide a protective barrier from external toxins, select skincare and beauty products with antioxidants. This includes natural handmade soaps made from anti-oxidant-filled essential oils to facial moisturisers infused with antioxidants.
Within the first 30 days of using the steps above to manage your mature skin, you will begin to see and feel the difference!
