Autumn Skincare Tips
Autumn is here, meaning that you may need to make a few changes to your skincare and beauty routine. Below are a few tips for keeping your skin healthy and hydrated as the weather begins to cool down.
Switch From A Body Lotion To A Body Cream
While some days are still quite warm and comfortable, the early morning and late evening air is likely to be crisp and cool. If you are not careful, your skin will dry out when exposed to the colder autumn weather, which is why now is a good time to switch from a body lotion to a body cream. If you are not already in the habit, lock in moisture by applying lotion after your shower or bath, and as needed throughout the day.
Don’t Forget The SPF
Even though the weather is cool and the sun will not always be shining bright, it is still important to wear skin-care and beauty products with built-in SPF (sun protection factor). Even when it is cloudy out, the sun’s rays will still find their way to your delicate skin.
Protect Your Hands And Lips
Between the cool dry air, licking your lips, eating, drinking, and washing your hands, you are likely to find that your hands and lips dry out quickly as the weather turns cold. Help to prevent chapping and cracking by carrying a thick hand cream with you, as well as a protective lip cream. If you wear lipstick daily, look for a hydrating lip balm that can be worn under your lipstick, or a lip moisturiser that can be applied on top of lip gloss or lip stains.
Gently Exfoliate From Head To Toe
Exfoliation is required all year-round, but with your dry skin and the decreased circulation caused by cooler weather, it may be more relevant in the autumn and winter. Some of the best ways to exfoliate your skin are with a loofah, an exfoliating bar soap, an Epsom salt bath or a gentle exfoliating scrub. If using an exfoliating scrub, loofah, or brush, rub gently and only exfoliate once or twice a week.
Adjust Your Makeup And Facial Moisturiser
Now is that perfect time to make the move to a thicker AM and PM facial moisturiser and maybe even a hydrating facial serum. You may also find that you require a thicker cream foundation or an all-day facial powder. Also keep in mind that your skin may pale a shade or two, so you may need to transition to a lighter base and different shades of blush, shadow, and lipsticks. Furthermore, protect your skin by applying a primer or barrier cream underneath your make-up.
Switch To A Natural Bar Soap
Soap is required to cleanse, but almost every over-the-counter soap is filled with harsh toxic chemicals that dry and damage your skin. While your skin might be able to balance out some of the effects of your harsh bar soaps, it will have a harder time keeping up as the weather gets cold. This makes autumn an excellent time to switch to our 100% natural, handmade French soap, which can be used on both your face and your body. While each of our soaps is infused with Shea butter or Argan oil, take things to the next level by switching to one of our ultra-hydrating bar soaps, such as our Olive oil, Shea butter, or Aloe vera soaps.
Last but not least, make sure you stay internally hydrated by drinking plenty of water, herbal tea, and fresh squeezed juice. With a few minor changes to your daily skincare and beauty routine, your skin will remain healthy and hydrated all year-round.
